Russian Everyday Culture

The film director Aleksei German, Jr., once said in an interview: “Russian life has no color.” I thought: “That’s debatable,” and prepared the present course, which might have been titled Russkiy kolorit. The course features six topics: “labor,” “home,” “family,” “holidays,” “art,” and “nature” in traditional Russian culture. Students will prepare a presentation on each topic. At the end of the course, there will be a colloquium at which students will have to either prove or disprove the great director’s assertion.
