Court Interpreting Simul

This course is intended for students who have successfully completed their third semester of Simultaneous Interpretation and aim at furthering their knowledge and skills in preparation for various professional court certificate examinations. The course will present and cover key concepts and characteristics of statements and proceedings involving more than one speaker (opening/closing statements, witness testimony, etc.), as well as the applicable techniques and strategies for the successful simultaneous interpretation of such statements into Spanish.

Class sessions will include discussion, simultaneous interpretation and sight translation. Each week a new topic will be introduced to help the students learn the specialized terminology of criminal and civil court proceedings. By the end of the semester, students will be able to accurately interpret statements of up to 120 wpm.
