Geog Mexico & Central America

The Geography of Mexico and Central America
In this course we will focus on the cultural, economic, political, and physical geography of Mexico and Central America. We will consider historical change in the region and the linkages between people and place to current issues of contested territories, development, environmental sustainability, conservation, eco-tourism, land-rights, and indigenous autonomy movements. The course materials will consist of a reader presenting voices from within the region and the perspectives of outsiders. The reader will be augmented by maps, photographs, and other imagery. Students will be encouraged to share their connections to Mexico and Central America with the class. 3 hrs. lect.
