Ceramics: Design & History
Pottery has long been recognized as both a useful and expressive medium. Nature, the human figure, and architecture have inspired ceramists both past and present, however potters continually face the challenge of successfully combining form, function, and aesthetics. In this course we will study the techniques of making pottery concurrently with ceramic history to develop ideas for forms and design. Students will learn and practice the fundamentals of wheel throwing, hand building, decorating, glazing, and firing with the goal of practicing new work based on historical study. This hands on course will be held in the College's ceramic studio, and each student will be assessed a fee of $150 to cover the costs of materials and firings.
