Sem:Adv Topics in Trade Policy
As the world flattens, the global marketplace becomes more integrated, more vibrant, and more complex. As a result, it becomes more difficult to analyze, to negotiate, and to navigate. The complications and difficulties are increasingly housed and addressed within the ambit of trade policy: including, but not limited to, financial crisis, persistent currency imbalances, climate change, human rights, food security, regulatory coherence, civil society, competition policy, government procurement, and now (in TPP) supply chains. The most likely candidate for an operational international governing body is the 153-member WTO. Trade policy is the intellectual crucible in which this stew is brewing. This course will focus on parsing the key trends and rigorously analyzing and cogently writing on those issues.
