Modern Chinese Religions AT
In this course we will explore the various religious traditions of modern China, including varieties of Buddhisms, Christianity, Islam, Daoism, and Confucianism. We will pay particular attention to sociological and ethnographic issues such as religion and the state, colonialism, ethnicity, gender and alternative modernities. We will study primary and secondary sources including popular literature, music and film. 3 hrs. lect./disc.
