Technology& the Future of Work

Technology and the Future of Work
In this course we will study the dynamic relationship between work and technology. Instead of seeing technology as an autonomous force that acts upon us, we will focus on the social nature of its design and its relevance to the world of work. We will consider the historical roots of technology and capitalism, but also contemporary debates around automation, workplace robotics, surveillance, and time use, as well as unions and worker movements to control technology. Students should leave the course prepared to investigate technological development through multiple lenses, and the many possibilities of the future of work. 3hrs lect.
