Race and Ethnicity in American Politics
This course is designed to introduce students to major concepts relevant to the sociological study of race, ethnicity, and politics. Throughout the semester we will explore theories and research pertaining to race/ethnicity and the following topics: identity politics and political mobilization, political power, elections and voting, the politics of environmental justice, and the welfare state. In this course students will compare and contrast a variety of perspectives about each course topic and apply scholarly theories to real life examples. 3 hrs. lect./disc.
