Executive Function & Literacy

Executive Function and Literacy
In this course students will gain an understanding of executive function and ADHD, how they affect literacy, and what teachers can do to create more successful learning environments. Students will explore areas of the brain responsible for executive functioning and varied manifestations of its dysfunction. You will learn to distinguish between behaviors that appear to be defiance or laziness and conditions causing these behaviors. Through readings, multi-media, and interactive activities, students will develop a new lens through which to consider student learning, and strategies to assist these students in their ability to access content and demonstrate understanding.
