Protein Structural Biology
In this course we will conduct an advanced investigation of protein structure, dynamics, and function. We will examine commonly-sampled structural motifs, domains, and folds highlighting evolutionary conservation of protein structure and function across organisms. Major contributions to the field of protein structural biology, including fold-founding structures, recent contributions to the identification of conformational intermediates, and descriptions of protein mechanism, will be critically evaluated as primary literature. We will also explore theoretical and practical aspects of diffraction-based, spectroscopic, computational, and hybrid approaches to protein structure determination with an emphasis on analysis and interpretation of primary data.
