Marxism in Latin America

Marxism in Latin America
What is Latin American Marxism? The writings of Karl Marx constitute a foundational discourse, which has given rise to many interpretations. Through readings in political philosophy, history, and study of literature and film, we will explore the trajectories of the Socialist and Communist parties; proposals to imagine a specifically Latin American route to an egalitarian society; and the Liberation Theology movement, which couples Catholic and Marxist thought. Readings will include works by: Marx, Azuela, Eisenstein, Mariátegui, Trotsky, Maroff, Castro, Frei Betto, and García Linera.
