Course Overview/Visione del corso:
This course explores various representations of “otherness” in Italian contemporary cinema. Attention will be provided to film language and theory, as well as cultural studies.

Course Description/Descrizione del corso:
This course introduces students to numerous representations of “otherness” in Italian society through the medium of film and media studies. Students will study film language and learn how to analyze a film, as well as study and learn how to apply film and various critical and cultural studies theories. Students will be asked to engage with current crucial discourses on themes presented throughout the course. We will consider the following themes: L’identità omosessuale e lesbica, L’identità transgender, Il corpo migrante, La questione della discriminazione nei confronti degli anziani, Studi sulla disabilità: corpo, malattia mentale e la teoria crip e Cyborgs, extraterrestri, & supereroi.
