The Contribution of Spain to the History of the Mediterranean (15th- to 19th- Centuries)
*Three-week course, second session*

This course is designed to study the role of Spain in the most important events that took place in and around the Mediterranean sea from 15th- to 19th-centuries. It covers the origin, development, and consolidation of the different cultures and civilizations that characterize the Mediterranean countries. Special relevance is given to analyze how Spanish culture contributed to the political, philosophical, religious, and literary ideas that were developed in a constant encounter with other cultures. In class, we will analyze, comment, and discuss primary sources—translated into Spanish—from the period, especially documents and historical sources, as well as historical studies by contemporary historians.
