Globalization of Art 1945-Pres
The Globalization of Art from 1945 to the Present
Today's art world is no longer centered in western countries. At the turning point of the 1980s, China, Africa, and Latin America became major centers of the contemporary art scene. Today's artists come from increasingly diverse ethnic, cultural, and gender backgrounds. This diversity has enriched the arts and a new creativity has emerged .
Today, the subject of art is increasingly focused on social topics such as violence, social inequalities, environment, minority issues, feminism, and gender issues. Art has also become an economical asset due to the rise of art market prices, and it is now part of the soft power of major countries.
The aim of this course is to give an historical perspective to explain these major changes in the context of globalization. We will study the main artistic movements and present a wide range of artists.
