CHEM 0102

STEM LAUNCH

STEM LAUNCH: A Larger Understanding of Chemistry
This course is designed for students seeking a supportive environment to broaden their understanding of foundational concepts and methods in science (especially, but not limited to, chemistry) in preparation for STEM courses such as CHEM 103, BIOL 140/145, or PHYS 109. With climate change as a unifying theme, we will examine four “big ideas”: 1. Energy, 2. Structure, 3. Change, and 4. Systems. Content will be drawn from open source (i.e., freely available) textbooks on Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, Geology, and Biology. In addition to class time, attendance at a weekly, peer-led, small-group study session in the evening is expected. (Open to first-year students and others by waiver; not open to students with credit for CHEM 0103) 3 hrs. lect./disc
