MIDD Core @ Monterey

CORE stands for Creativity, Opportunity, Risk-Taking, and Entrepreneurship. Offered during J-Term for the first time in January 2013, MiddCORE@MIIS is a transformative and intense social learning experience that challenges teams of students to devise innovative new approaches to wicked social problems. The course focuses strongly on skills and competencies required to facilitate multi-stakeholder processes of planning and action and on the power of teams and diverse perspectives to achieve breakthrough ideas. Two things make this course different from anything else you will experience at MIIS. First, the course is taught not by faculty but by more than 20 highly successful leaders from the business, public, and nonprofit sectors, people who are themselves entrepreneurs, innovators, and adept change agents. Students work directly with these mentors on a daily basis. Second, the course focuses on a concrete, complex social issue in the Monterey area, and student teams will work in the field, with actual stakeholders, to find innovative solutions.
