Sem:Ethics and Intl Affairs
This seminar will address a range of moral and ethical issues that confront all serious students of international affairs. After a survey of the way in which ethical concepts can or do operate in international relations, special attention will be given to the following topics: transitional justice, human rights, the use of force (including so-called “humanitarian interventions”) and the ethical dilemmas in the use of terrorism and efforts to combat it. Aside from doing the readings for this course, students will be asked to prepare a major research paper on a topic relevant to the themes of the class and to present their research to the members of the seminar.
