Human Security

The course introduces the concept of human security, its development and real-world applications, and implications for international policy through case examples in Latin America. This course is part of the unique multilingual Monterey Model course which allows students to share their views on human security issues in Spanish with the other language sections (English, French and Japanese) and with the aid of interpreters. Given the relevance that citizen security has recently gained in Latin America, citizen security will also be explored within the broader concept of human security.
