The seminar will address terrorist activity in the Middle East, and familiarize students with known terrorist organizations throughout the region such as al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, Hezbollah, Jabha Al Nusra, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, among others. Seminar participants will evaluate US and international counterterrorism policy and operations in the Middle East. Based on their evaluation, students will be asked to suggest “alternative” or mutually supporting policies. In an effort to “theory to practice” seminar, participants will learn how to prepare and apply Middle East related terrorist group profiles and terrorist threat matrices through class discussion and papers.
