Design Activism

Design Studio: Can Design Activism Change Life?
Over the past twenty years design activism has been subject of increasing attention. It emphasizes participation, dialogue, and community engagement. In this studio we will generate ideas, and communicate those ideas visually, orally, and through writing. By way of readings and documentary films, we will explore design approaches from renowned socially engaged designers and collectives. Students will participate in workshops, conduct individual projects, work in teams, and make presentations on implementing their designs. We will discuss and develop projects that explore the effect of design activism on everyday life, the public sphere, and the built environment.
