Textual Linguistics

Textual Linguistics

This course focuses on the study of clause order and grouping within a text. We will study enunciation as a basic textual unit, and the concept of viewpoint. We will discuss various phenomena related to enunciation (situation and development); verbal mode, modality, modalization; use of verbal tense; illocution; connectors; and sequencing (narrative and argumentative sequence structures). Using the text as reference, we will focus on the construction of reference (anaphora and coreference) and textual cohesion (thematic progression, etc.).
