A comprehensive study of the first autonomous Spanish American literary movement and its foundational role in modern Spanish American literature. Modernismo’s cosmopolitanism and its relation to the discourses of philology, journalism, and literature are examined through readings of modernista poetry, novels, short stories, essays, and crónicas.
