Educational Technology and Second Language Teaching

This course aims at providing future and practising L2 instructors with a pedagogical foundation for the theory and practice of technology integration in second language learning and teaching. SLA theories and research findings will provide a framework to explore FL instruction and computer assisted learning (CALL) applications. Course topics include trends and issues of instructional technology use, instructional techniques, and standards and strategies for integrating technology into a variety of language learning settings. Based on an experiential project development approach, the course will offer students opportunities to critically assess existing CALL applications and to design learning materials based on current and relevant SLA research. Class sessions are designed to be hands-on and interactive.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- To develop and assess learning frameworks which integrate uses of technology based on relevant principles and research in SLA and CALL.
- To analyze and assess the pedagogical values of technological tools and software frequently used in L2 learning and teaching
- To measure and use in a concrete project the potential of technological tools and web information sources for L2 Teaching and Learning.
